Restaurants we like in Paris

  • Huitres et Saumons de Passy
    17, rue de l'Annonciation 75016 Paris
Great fresh seafood, mostly raw, and a homemade honestly hot sauce
  • Le Perraudin
    157 Rue Saint-Jacques
This is in the neighborhood of Institut Henri Poincare and Ecole Normale Superieure. Unpretentious old-fashioned inexpensive local restaurant, where mathematicians like to hang out. I think the Beef Bourguignon is good.
  • Al Dar
    8 Rue Frederic Sauton
A great Lebanese sandwich place for lunch. We've been going to this place for 20 years. There is a restaurant that is *very* expensive, so we've never eaten there. But on the corner there is a little takeout place with great lamb and chicken schwarma sandwiches, great pickled radish and peppers, and great baklava. That and a beer makes for a very satisfying lunch.
  • Domaine de Lintillac
    20 Rue Rousselet
This is a really nice little restaurant that is off the beaten track. I don't recall ever seeing any tourists in there. I found it wandering around aimlessly, while Nick was fencing in a club nearby. The owner speaks English very well and offers good advice on what to order. The dishes we liked best are the cassoulet, foie gras (as an appetizer), and maigret de canard (duck breast). We also liked the salade de gesiers (giblets and greens). Actually, I think all of the salads are good. You should ask for a recommendation for the wine. There's often a wine of the month kind of thing. We always drank red and I think we liked the Pic Saint Loup, which is much more expensive than the others.
  • Creperie Josselin
    67 Rue du Montparnasse
This is *on* the beaten track and well known as the best creperie in Paris. There's always a long line.
  • Le Mauzac
    7 Rue de l'Abbe de l'Epee
Very nice French bistro and wine bar in the Latin Quarter
  • Au Coin des Gourmets
    5 Rue Dante
This is a nice Cambodian (like Vietnamese) restaurant.
  • Pho Banh Cuon 14
    129 Avenue de Choisy
Vietnamese pho (soup with rice noodles, different forms of beef, and fresh aromatic herbs)
  • Le-Lai
    24 Rue du Javelot
Pho restaurant recommended by Phong (from Columbia) but open only for lunch.
